on the Rio' jazzes Homecoming

decorating contest among 40 events planned
Celebrate
Carnival on the Rio during UNMs 78th annual
Homecoming Sept. 26-Oct. 4. Nearly 40 events lead up to the
football game Saturday, Oct. 4, at University Stadium when UNM
takes on Utah State at 6 p.m.
Festivities
get underway Friday, Sept. 26 when UNM students, faculty and
staff will have the opportunity to clean up the campus during
Fall Frenzy.
On Tuesday,
Sept. 30, departments across campus will decorate lobbies and
offices as part of the Campus Decorating Contest. Judging begins
at 2 p.m. For details, call Eleanor Sanchez, 277-1813.
On Wednesday,
Oct. 1, students can vote for Homecoming royalty in the SUB
from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The
Lobo Howl, a longtime Homecoming tradition, along with
other games all part of the Cherry/Silver Spirit Cup competition,
is set for Thursday, Oct. 2, at 2 p.m. The induction of the
Class of 1953 into the Heritage Club will be the highlight of
the Heritage Club dinner at the Albuquerque Petroleum Club at
6 p.m. on Thursday. The All-Sports Pep Rally is set for Friday,
Oct. 3, from noon to 1 p.m. at the Duck Pond along with unveiling
the homecoming court. The Masquerade Ball takes
place Friday from 8 to 11 p.m. at the Southwest Carnival Tent
in the northeast corner of University Stadium. The event includes
a Mardi Gras-themed costume contest, music and free food.
Events
for Saturday, Oct. 4 include the All-University Breakfast, UNM
Alumni Lettermens Tailgate Party, Southwest Carnival and
the 10th annual UNM Alumni Association Silent Auction.
