UNM students and staff entered a colorful Homecoming float in Expo New Mexico’s State Fair Parade. UNM’s entry “Carnival on the Rio” won 2nd place in the organizational bands category. The Spirit Squad, Lobo Louie and Lobo Lucy drew cheers all along the route.


Roli Varma, an associate professor in the School of Public Administration in the Anderson Schools of Management, has received $345,000 from the National Science Foundation (NSF) to extend a research project on the reasons for under-representation of women majoring in core information technology disciplines, including computer science and computer engineering.

Varma has teamed up with Deepak Kapur, chair and professor, computer science, School of Engineering (SOE). Varma specializes in the role of gender, while Kapur brings expertise in the IT field.
