Generación
to perform at Keller Hall
The musical
group GENERACIÓN, from Villarrica, Paraguay, will perform
Monday, Nov. 10, at 7:30 p.m. at Keller Hall in the UNM Center
for the Arts. Co-sponsored by the Division of Student Affairs,
Accessibility Services, El Centro de la Raza, the International
Center, and Special Programs, the event features a musical group
renowned in South America for its recordings and performances
of traditional music from Argentina, Chile, Peru and Paraguay.
As part
of a campus initiative to increase student and community awareness
of and interaction with diverse international cultures, GENERACIÓNs
performance will feature four voices, two guitars, piano and
a traditional accordion-like instrument, the bandoneon.
The five-member
group has won many international awards recognizing excellence
as transmitters of traditional music and for stellar performances
through their 20 years together as a musical ensemble. Paraguays
VIDA Magazine recently reported that the music that GENERACIÓN
plays brings infinite pleasure to audiences.
After the
performance, a reception will be held to allow audience members
the opportunity to meet the group and sample native Paraguayan
foods.
Tickets
can be purchased at the UNM Center for the Arts. They are $7.50
for general admission, $4.50 with a student I.D.
