Laser lesson
Zhang Zhiyin (suit, in center), mayor of Lanzhou Municipal People's Government, China, listens as UNM Center for High Technology Materials Research Professor Ralph Dawson, left, explains how CHTM creates semiconductor devises consisting of hundreds of individual layers. Lei Zhang, a UNM graduate now at Zia Lasers, (standing with Zhiyin) gave a Chinese language tour of the facility to the Chinese delegation. The delegation was in Albuquerque as part of a Sister Cities program. UNM International Programs and Studies reports that the university has 193 Chinese students while CHTM reports that half the students in their program come from China. Photo by Carolyn Gonzales.
