Students
who transfer from UNM-Los Alamos to main campus were recently
honored with a reception at the Student Union Building.
Speaking
on behalf of the branch was Director Carlos Ramirez. Provost
Brian Foster and Vice President for Student Affairs Eliseo Cheo
Torres represented main campus.
Among the
transfer students was Victor Caraveo, originally from Española,
a senior studying mechanical engineering.
Amy Sanchez
started her education at New Mexico State University, took a
break from studies before attending UNM-LA, and is now a senior
majoring in political science.
Marla Fowler,
a junior, hasnt broken her Los Alamos ties yet. Recently
accepted to the Anderson Schools of Management, she boards on
a plane twice a week to her job at the Los Alamos National Laboratory.
Torres
told the students, On behalf of myself and Dr. Foster,
we declare you official ambassadors to Los Alamos.
He also
told them that a new scholarship has been established to help
transferring students with housing costs.
Foster
said that bringing together a group from a branch at main campus
is a terrific idea and thought it may be unprecedented.
Foster said he hopes other such events take place in the future.
UNM also has branch campuses in Taos, Gallup and Valencia County.
