Administrative changes announced

President Louis Caldera, after consultation with the UNM Board of Regents, recently announced that long time state government executive David Harris will join the university as executive vice president for Administration May 2.

In a related matter, the regents supported naming Brian Foster provost and “executive” vice president for Academic Affairs, effective immediately. Foster has served as Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs since April 2001.

Vice President for Business and Finance Julie Weaks Gutierrez has announced she will retire in July.

Before becoming vice president, Gutierrez served as UNM budget director. Since 1976, she has held numerous leadership positions on the main and north campuses.

In 1993, Gutierrez earned her executive MBA from the Anderson Schools of Management. She also earned her bachelor’s from UNM.

During her UNM career she served on numerous campus and statewide committees. Gutierrez has also been a UNM liaison to the New Mexico legislature.

Vice President for Advancement Judy Jones has moved to north campus to begin new duties as Associate Vice President for Strategic Initiatives at the Health Sciences Center. Wynn Goering, special assistant to the president, has assumed responsibilities of interim vice president.
