‘Islam and Europe’ lecture series begins Sept. 13
UNM’s International Studies Institute presents “Islam and Europe” for its first fall lecture series, Sept. 13-16, Woodward Hall, rm. 101.
Distinguished speakers will present a series of lectures to introduce New Mexicans to European/Western and Islamic civilizations.
With the end of the Cold War, some observers claim that Islam and, more particularly “Islamic fundamentalism” is the new “enemy” of Western Civilization, reinforced by the events of Sept. 11, 2001. The lecture series will examine the origins and substance of this claim drawing on current politics, art and literature.
All lectures are free and open to the public. For more information, visit ISI’s Web site: www.unm.edu/~isi/.
