Alliance wins contract to run Idaho lab
The university is part of the Battelle Energy Alliance that will establish and operate the Idaho National Laboratory for the next decade.
The group of universities participating is led by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and includes UNM, North Carolina State, Ohio State, Oregon State, Boise State, Idaho State and the University of Idaho.
UNM was asked to participate in the alliance because of expertise in nuclear space engineering.
Exact details of UNM’s participation are not completed, but Vice President for Research and Economic Development Terry Yates said he expects the contract to allow for as many as six new faculty members in the School of Engineering.
