New staff academic scholarship defrays fees
The Provost Committee for Staff, in partnership with the Human Resources Department, has created a scholarship through the UNM Foundation to support staff in the use of their tuition remission benefit.
UNM employees can apply for the scholarship to help cover costs of books, course fees and other supplies. The award will be given on a semester basis. UNM employees interested in contributing to the scholarship fund can do so through payroll deductions. The purpose of the foundation account is to help grow the fund and provide increased support to staff.
Staff as Students
The committee will have additional information on the scholarship at the Staff as Students “one-stop shop” event Tuesday, Nov. 16, from noon to 2 p.m. in the SUB Ballroom B. Scholarship applications for the Spring 2005 semester are due Jan. 10. Details and application forms are also available at www.unm.edu/~pcs.
Textbooks for Trade
The committee also designed a new textbook trade Web site to benefit staff. Staff can exchange or donate used textbooks to fellow staff members attending college. With increased staff participation, there is a greater opportunity for students to obtain required textbooks.
Book exchanges will be arranged on an individual basis through the Web site.
The service is not intended for the resale of used textbooks.
