In Brief
Nursing
to lead caregiver system development
The UNM
College of Nursing will serve as the lead agency in developing
a local caregiver support system.
More than
$67,000 in funding from the City of Albuquerque and the Bernalillo
County Area Agency on Aging (AAA) has been awarded to the college
for a six month period.
In the
past ten years, New Mexico has seen a decrease in birth rates
and increase in life span meaning more families are facing the
challenge of caring for aging loved ones.
Because
of this growing need, Congress passed legislation authorizing
$125 million to establish a New Family Caregiver Support Program
as part of the Older Americans Act.
Astronomy
summer camp open to children
The Astronomy
Odyssey Summer Camp at the LodeStar Astronomy Center offers
a $10 discount to UNM employees.
Half- and
full-day venues are packed with hands-on activities. Two adult
instructors and one aide teach all classes.
