Lobo Center evolving into one-stop shop

Construction has started at the Lobo Center, located on the corner of University and Lomas NE. In August of 2003, the Department of Human Resources opened the HR Service Center and a large number of our staff moved to the center from main campus. We are happy to report that Phase II of HR’s relocation to the Lobo Center is underway.

The Lobo Center is undergoing a massive remodel. A three-story expansion is being created in the space previously occupied by Belew’s and UNM Press. The expansion, which is approximately 70,000 square feet, began Jan. 1 and is scheduled to be completed in December. Upon completion, the remaining HR staff from main campus, as well as our Employee and Organizational Development, will move to this new space. Effective early 2006, all employee training will be held at the new facility. A number of other departments are tentatively scheduled to move to this new space. Among them are the controller’s office, accounts payable, purchasing, payroll, financial systems management, general accounting, property, tax, and contracts and grants. We look forward to being part of a one-stop administrative service center.

We understand that working in a construction zone will pose a number of challenges for both employees and customers. Construction has been contained to a fenced area and walkways exist for pedestrian access. The biggest obstacle right now might be parking. The Lobo Center lost some parking spaces as a result of the construction. A few spaces are available for customers in the front of the building. Spaces are also being set aside in T Lot to help us accommodate new employee orientation. You may also want to consider taking the T Lot shuttle or walking. Please don’t hesitate to come by.
