Moira Gerety, the new director for Computer and Information Resources and Technology (CIRT) believes students, faculty and staff deserve a high level of customer service, and says that will be her priority.
Gerety was appointed to the position following Bill Adkins appointment as chief information officer for UNM. Adkins will now be responsible for managing information technology resources, and working to coordinate platforms.
Gerety says she is happy to be back at the university, where her first job was as a bilingual secretary at the Latin American Institute. She is a graduate of the Anderson Schools of Management MBA program and has worked in private industry in manufacturing, with the Public Service Company of New Mexico, and as chief information officer for the state. She says she is excited because the CIRT offices are only a seven minute walk from home. She is married with six children.
Now Gerety is looking at the people, projects, and structure of CIRT to determine what the department is capable of handling. CIRT needs to communicate better with the general campus community, she says, noting,
“I have a very collaborative style.”
“IT is here to support the campus community,” she adds.
During the next several months Gerety says she will work on a master network plan, a master hosting plan, and an institutional storage plan.
She will also review the way CIRT manages and prioritizes projects to determine whether the department can be more responsive.
