Lee Teitelbaum, 63, UNM law professor from 1973-’87, died of cancer in late September.
A celebration of his life and career will be held at the School of Law forum on Friday, March 4, at 5:30 p.m.
Teitelbaum grew up New Orleans and earned his undergraduate and law degrees from Harvard University.
In 1987, he left UNM to join the faculty and administration at the University of Utah’s S.J. Quincy College of Law. He stepped down as dean in 1998 to return to research on children and family law, in which he had achieved a national reputation. His first stop was the UNM law school, where he spent a semester as distinguished visiting scholar.
Former UNM Dean Fred Hart said, “The thing that struck me was what a gentle and thoughtful person he was. He was very modest and always made you feel like you knew more than he, which was wrong.”
