United Way campaign hits high mark
By Patrick Vigil
In a remarkable show of community spirit, UNM faculty and staff raised $310,000 during the 2004 United Way campaign. The amount generously surpasses the university’s goal of $277,000.The UNM campaign amount rose from 19th last year to 5th this year in the Albuquerque Metro area. Of all public employers in Bernalillo and surrounding counties, including APS, TV-I, the City of Albuquerque and UNM Hospital, our campaign was ranked the highest.
Of the amount raised, $51,000 was earmarked for numerous university programs, departments and scholarships.
S
everal new initiatives and greater involvement by many UNM employees contributed to the success of the campaign. An employee cook-out, sponsored by the Physical Plant Department, raised $500. Parking and Transportation Services had 100 percent employee participation.
In February, the review process began for more than 100 requests submitted by not-for-profit groups seeking United Way funding.
Volunteer allocation panels review requests, with 18 university employees participating.
The university’s campaign was a great success and UNM has taken a higher place among contributors in our community.
