Faculty,
staff comment sought on performance review, travel policies
Vice President
for Business and Finance Julie Weaks and the UNM Executive Cabinet
would like faculty, staff and students to carefully evaluate
and comment on proposed changes to Policy 3230 Performance
Review and Recognition and proposed changes to Policy
4030 Travel. Comments should be sent to Weaks
office or via e-mail to ubppm@unm.edu by June 21 for Performance
Review and Recognition and June 24 for the Travel
policy.
The Department
of Human Resources conducted a formal assessment this past year
of the Performance Review and Recognition Policy
and form. There has been overwhelming support for simplifying
and shortening the form. The proposed changes include reducing
the number of sections on the form, adding an additional rating
category-outstanding performance, clarifying the employees
opportunity to comment, and clarifying the link between performance
review and career development. In addition the number of categories
for the University Values section would be reduced from 16 to
6 and include the new value Access and Student Success.
A comprehensive
review was conducted on the Travel Policy by a taskforce
from main campus and the Health Sciences Center. The proposed
changes incorporate recommendations from faculty, staff and
students. Unfortunately, changes could not be made to the per
diem amounts and mileage reimbursement amounts because they
are subject to the constraints of the New Mexico State
Per Diem and Mileage Act. The proposed drafts are available
to UNM faculty, staff, and students accessing the UNM web page
through UNM computers. The URL is http://www.unm.edu/~ubppm.
