UNM
managers honored
Of
the more than 45 UNM managers nominated for the 2002 Staff as
Students Manager Award two were selected for the honor.
Claire
ODowd of the College of Pharmacy and Nancy Risenhoover
of the Department of Pathology were recently acknowledged for
demonstrating the highest commitment to the education, training
and development of staff.
The
committee receives many compelling nominations. This year their
task was impossible
and so we are recognizing two managers,
said Associate Vice President and Director of Human Resources
Susan Carkeek during a recent ceremony at University House.
President William C. Gordon and vice presidents Judy Jones and
Julie Weaks were also on hand to honor managers and UNM staff
who recently received diplomas.
More than
a dozen staff sang praises for ODowd. She was noted for
willingness to arrange schedules and, as a group of nominators
remarked, for broadening our imaginations and aspirations
to achieve higher levels of success than we had once thought
possible. A sole nominator said, Claire has even
covered the desk herself so one of her staff could attend a
class.
Risenhoover,
with help from Continuing Education and EOD staff, last year
developed an in-house staff development certification program
for pathology administrative and managerial staff. Classes include
teamwork principles, medical terminology and business writing.
