UNM to Celebrate 81st Annual Homecoming Oct. 2-7
‘UNM: there's no place like home' theme for 2006

The University of New Mexico will celebrate its 81st annual homecoming, Oct. 2-7, with a catchy Oz-like theme, “UNM: there's no place like home.” Homecoming week will feature more than 50 separate events all leading up to the big football game Saturday, Oct. 7, when UNM takes on Wyoming. The festivities begin Monday, Oct. 2 with a variety of student activities on tap. A complete list of events can be found at: http://www.unmalumni.com/homecoming/ .
On Tuesday, Oct. 3, departments across campus will decorate lobbies and offices as part of the Campus Decorating Contest. Judging will be held from 11 to 2 p.m. On Wednesday, Oct. 4, Current full-time UNM faculty and staff employees who are UNM alumni are invited to an appreciation lunch at the Student Union Ballroom beginning at noon. Additionally, students will be able to vote on the UNM Homecoming royalty in the Student Union Building from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
"The Lobo Howl," a longtime Homecoming tradition, along with other activities that are all a part of the Cherry/Silver Games competition, is set for Thursday, Oct. 5. Students strive for the coveted Cherry/Silver Cup in wacky games at the Duck Pond. The induction of the Class of 1956 into the Heritage Club will be the highlight of the Heritage Club dinner at the Albuquerque Petroleum Club at 6:30 p.m. The event honors those alumni who graduated from UNM 50 or more years ago.
On Friday, Oct. 6, from 6 to 9 p.m., Alumni reunions from many colleges and programs will take place all across campus. Also, from 8 to 11 p.m., ‘A Night in Emerald City' will be held in the SUB Ballroom, which will be transformed into the Land of Oz. Alumni are invited to join UNM students for an evening of music and dancing and to meet the 2006 Homecoming Court.
Events for Saturday, Oct. 7 include the All-University Breakfast, Alumni Lettermen's Tailgate Party, the Southwest Fiesta (tailgate party) at the northeast end of University Stadium, which starts at 3:30 p.m., and the 13th annual Alumni Association Silent Auction. The week culminates with the game between Wyoming and New Mexico at University Stadium. Game time is 6 p.m.
