UNM commissioned duet on PBS

A work commissioned by Eric Rombach-Kendall, director of UNM Bands and associate professor in the Department of Music, will be performed by members of the New York Philharmonic Thursday, July 18, on KNME-TV Channel 5.

The program, “LIVE FROM LINCOLN CENTER Kurt Masur’s Birthday Farewell,” airs from 7-9 p.m. The UNM commissioned work, “Fandango,” is by New Jersey composer Joseph Turrin. It premiered and was recorded by the UNM Wind Symphony in 2000.Performing it on PBS will be principal trumpet for the New York Philharmonic Phil Smith and principal trombone Joe Alessi.

Rombach-Kendall served as conductor for the CD “Fandango” and with Arizona State University faculty Sam Pilafian co-produced it. The recording is available worldwide from Summit Records.
