Participants Needed for UNM Study Involving Peoples’ Relationship with Their Dog After Losing A Loved One

As dogs increasingly have been identified as members of families and household composition has changed, their roles in the family have become more valued. A dissertation research study in the Family Studies Program in the UNM College of Education, that aims to examine the owner’s relationship with his or her dog after the death of a loved one, is currently recruiting participants.

Individuals between the ages of 25 and 60, who lost a loved one to death in the past two years while owning a dog, are currently being recruited for the study. Participants will be asked to fill out three surveys that will take approximately an hour (for all three) to complete.

Interested individuals, who have questions about qualifications for the study or for more information can call (505) 266-3134. Leave a message with name, address, telephone number and a convenient time to call. Qualified individuals will be mailed a packet with the surveys, directions, and a self-addressed stamped envelope.

The study satisfies a requirement for a doctorate in the Family Studies Program of the College of Education at the University of New Mexico.
