UNM Professor Abhaya Datye Receives National Science Foundation Award

UNM Distinguished Professor of Chemical and Nuclear Engineering Abhaya Datye has received the National Science Foundation Industry/University Cooperative Research Center award for 2008. “Dr. Datye’s leadership has resulted in a number of critical research initiatives that have improved the department’s visibility and facilitated the hiring of talented junior faculty,” said Julia Fulghum, chair of the Department of Chemical and Nuclear Engineering. “He has led the development of the new Nanoscience and Microsystems program, which has an impact not just on UNM, but on the state.”

The Ceramic and Composite Materials Center is a collaborative effort with Rutgers University and Penn State University. The Center was established in 1989 at UNM and Datye served as the director through 2004. At UNM it is the hub of materials research, providing support for characterizations facilities and strong involvement in educational programs such as the Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU), the Nanoscience and Microsystems (NSMS) degree program and Integrated Graduate Education Research and Training (IGERT).
