Visual Opportunities

  • Colleges and departments at UNM will be featured at “Explore UNM”
  • Prospective students and parents on campus
  • Interactive exhibits provided to showcase the College of Engineering include:
    • Tours of several labs, including the robotics lab, where robot demonstrations will be held.
    • A race car will be on display in the ECE courtyard.
    • Engineering students will be using Segways to attract crowds to the engineering demos.
    • Demonstrations of the insulation properties of aerogels.  Aerogels are 99.8% air, but they have extraordinary insulating properties so one of the demos will show an acetylene torch with the aerogel sheet just above it.  Above that they will have several crayons, and will show that the crayons will stay cool because of the aerogel insulation.
    • Demonstrations of the properties of ‘slime’ and how a slight change in the chemical make-up of a material can make it slimy or not.
  • “Inside Predock,” an exhibit featuring the work of renowned architect, and UNM graduate, Antoine Predock will be held at the School of Architecture. Predock designed the new School of Architecture building, in addition to the UNM Welcome Center. Predock is a recipient of the American Institute of Architecture’s Gold Medal – a rare honor bestowed upon the top architects in the United States.
  • The School of Fine Arts will be holding various performances on campus.
