I will not argue that Peter Lynch should not have gotten any punishment for destroying the Mexican flag. Though I feel his anger was justified, destroying someone else's flag is stepping over the line.
However, I feel this whole unfortunate situation could have been avoided if people were more aware of flag etiquette in this country. Technically, flying a foreign flag without the American flag is historically an act of war.

Congressional candidate Ben Ray Lujan earned his college degree from New Mexico Highlands University in December, campaign officials said Thursday.
Lujan's degree is in business administration with an emphasis in finance, staffers said in response to a Journal inquiry.
Lujan's lack of a degree came up during his 2004 campaign for the state Public Regulation Commission. At the time, Lujan pledged to complete his course work during his first term on the PRC, said Carlos Trujillo, manager of the congressional campaign.
"He kept that promise," Trujillo said. Lujan, who chaired the PRC, is running for the Democratic nomination for the U.S. House seat being vacated by Rep. Tom Udall, D-N.M.
