1. UNM Tuition Change Helps All Make Grade (Albuquerque Journal)

"Our students are perfectly happy graduating in 10 years versus five. We have 10-year graduation rates that are higher than six years because they're cool with it."
--Terry Babbitt UNM interim vice president for enrollment

Some University of New Mexico students may be "cool" with the job title perennial student. Anybody who would like to see UNM move up the ladder in rankings is not, because part of what universities are judged on is the graduation rate— not participation in continuing education.

2. UNM Chooses VP For Enrollment (Albuquerque Journal)

University of New Mexico President David Schmidly has inched closer to finalizing his administrative team, announcing his pick for vice president for enrollment management.

Carmen Alvarez Brown will begin her duties sometime this summer, UNM announced in a news release.

"There is nothing more important to this university than the success of its students," Schmidly said in the release. "We want to remove roadblocks that may hamper their journey from admission through graduation. Carmen will bring a rare energy to the task."

The enrollment management division, created by Schmidly, includes the offices of recruitment, admissions, financial aid, records and registration.

Alvarez Brown is assistant vice president for enrollment management and director of undergraduate admissions at Florida International University.

She has a bachelor's degree in liberal studies and a master's in adult education from that university.
