Bridge Commemorates Cycling Crash Victim
Journal Staff ReportPerhaps now James Quinn has a fitting memorial.
Local officials, family members and bicyclists gathered Wednesday to celebrate the completion of a bridge and other bike-trail improvements along Embudo Channel.
The bridge is named after Quinn, a popular law student killed in a cycling crash last year.
The new trail and bridge are just north of Interstate 40, near Vassar NE.
The city and federal governments helped pay for the $800,000 project. The Albuquerque Metropolitan Arroyo Flood Control Authority also contributed.
A scholarship has been established at the University of New Mexico. Donations can be made to the James Quinn Memorial Scholarship, UNM School of Law, 1 University of New Mexico, Albuquerque, NM 87131-0001.
The driver who hit the 28-year-old Quinn last year in Tijeras Canyon was charged with careless driving.
