1. UNM Hospital gains wired recognition (Santa Fe New Mexican)

University of New Mexico Hospital has been named one of the top 100 wired hospitals in the United States for the fifth consecutive year by the American Hospital Association.

Most-wired hospitals use a wider array of information-technology tools, including computerized physician orders, bedside electronic medication matching, automated alerts and reminders, electronic patient surveillance and other techniques.

UNMH was also ranked third in the nation by Consumer Reports for providing conservative patient care in June.

2. '68 Medalist Treated at UNMH (Albuquerque Journal)

Dick Fosbury's journey to the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing took an unexpected detour this year when a cancer diagnosis put the 1968 gold medalist on an operating table at the University of New Mexico Cancer Center.

3. Fan leaves $1.1 million to UNM athletics (Albuquerque Journal)

The University of New Mexico athletics department recently received a $1.16 million gift from the estate of longtime Lobo Club member Omar Heins.

   
Heins, who died in January at the age of 96, set up five major donations to UNM athletics through the Lobo Legacy program.

   
“We are very grateful for the support Mr. Heins gave Lobo athletics for the many years he was an active member of the Lobo Club and a season-ticket holder,” said UNM Vice President for Athletics Paul Krebs. “His generosity continues through his estate and it will have a tremendous impact on Lobo athletics for years to come.”

4. Duke City Shootout gets more star power and Sony cameras (New Mexico Business Weekly) (John Britt, a cinematographer with KNME-TV mentioned)

The Duke City Shootout is getting a nice tech boost this year, courtesy of Sony.

The company is providing a new set of Sony PMWEX1 cameras to the Shootout's videographers and is the official camera sponsor of the week-long filmmaking festival.

Sony (NYSE: SNE) provided its DHW-F900 Cin Alta cameras in 2004 to the Shootout and all the event's productions have since been shot in high definition. Other sponsors this year include Intel (NYSE: INTC), Adobe Systems Inc. (NASDAQ: ADBE), Entertainment Partners, Hampton Inn & Suites, DRB Electric, the city of Albuquerque, Laru Ni Hati, Tractor Brewing Co., the ARTS Lab at the University of New Mexico and Central New Mexico Community College.

Representatives from Sony and John Britt, a cinematographer with KNME-TV in Albuquerque and a former Shootout award winner, hosted a series of bootcamp sessions on using the equipment for participants, who are busy shooting and editing their creations for a grand unveiling on Aug. 2 at the Albuquerque Convention Center.
