1. Long, Krebs Agree in Principle (Albuquerque Journal)
By Greg Archuleta, Journal Staff WriterUniversity of New Mexico athletics director Paul Krebs and football coach Rocky Long have agreed in principle on a new contract, Krebs said Monday.
In fact, the two have been in agreement for awhile. It's the lawyers for both sides that have held up the deal for the 11th-year coach.

I AM AN insulin-dependent diabetic who recently moved to Albuquerque. I need to get affiliated with a physician.
I called the scheduling office at the University of New Mexico Medical School clinics to try to make an appointment with a physician. I was told no physicians at the UNM clinics were seeing new patients. I asked them how I could find a physician, and they told me they had no idea.
This is really a sad state of affairs to get this response at the state's only medical school. It also says a lot about our medical care system in the United States.

3. UNM Students Pay for This Bargain (Albuquerque Journal Letter to the Editor)
THE JOURNAL recently reported on a survey of about 300 University of New Mexico students, conducted and distributed by the Princeton Review as part of a nationwide study. Compared to other students in the nation, UNM students thought that their professors were "least accessible."
Professor Jackie Hood, who represents the faculty at the UNM Senate and who is a professor at the Anderson Schools of Management, said: "We should look at this in a positive light." And UNM President David Schmidly was proud to share the Princeton Review findings with his faculty. Both should be awarded a doctorate in the "art of spinning."
The review also reported that UNM students thought that UNM is a bargain. Put differently: UNM students get what they pay for. This should worry all parents with children in New Mexico high schools and the New Mexico secretary of education.
