Career fair will feature 20 Albuquerque employers (UNM included)
by Megan KamerickSeveral of Albuquerque’s newest corporate additions will be recruiting employees at a career fair on Aug. 19.
Hewlett-Packard and Fidelity HR Services will be among the 20 or so employers at the fair, which is being organized by Local Educational Adult Resources Network, or LEARN, a nonprofit consortium of 12 universities, including Webster University, National American University, University of New Mexico and Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.
Hewlett-Packard (NYSE: HPQ) announced plans to build a customer service facility in Rio Rancho earlier this year employing 1,300, and Fidelity HR Services will move into a new 210,000-square-foot building at Mesa del Sol in 2009 and plans to hire between 300 and 350 employees.
Other employers participating in the fair include Z-Coil, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, United Parcel Service (NYSE: UPS) and Citibank.
Caroline Lwali, community relations coordinator with Webster University, said this is the first LEARN career fair in Albuquerque and the plan is to make it an annual event. New Mexico is fortunate that hiring remains strong here, she said, and the state has a low unemployment rate of about 3.9 percent.
The fair takes place Aug. 19 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at National American University, 4775 Indian School Road NE. For directions or more information, call (505) 348-3700.
