UNM Sees More New Students

The UNM campus is packed with people, and if a number of these people look like they’re trying to find their way around, that’s because they are brand new to campus.

UNM is seeing a surge in new freshman enrollment this fall. Today, on the first day of the fall semester, 3,190 freshmen were signed up for classes. That’s a 9.85% increase over last fall and record setting numbers for new beginning freshmen.

This year more students than ever are also living in the dorms. UNM residential housing holds about 24-hundred students, and this year it is full. That means single rooms are not available at the moment, although housing officials say the pressure might ease slightly when Greek rush is over and some students move into sorority or fraternity houses.
