Barack Obama Coming to UNM’s Johnson Field Saturday Night (MAP)

Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama will come to Johnson Field on the University of New Mexico campus for a political rally on Saturday evening, October 25, 2008. The venue will open at 7 p.m. and approximately 25,000 people are expected to attend.

Because of the anticipated crowds and security for the event, movement on the eastern half of the campus will be severely limited beginning at 3 p.m. on Saturday.

  • Redondo Drive from Yale and Central, Redondo East and Campus Blvd./Las Lomas west to Yale and Las Lomas will all be closed to traffic at 3 p.m. and will not reopen until at some time after the event concludes. A number of parking lots on the east side of campus will also be closed at 3 p.m.
  • People attending the Obama rally are encouraged by the campaign to park in the T, M and Q lots, or at University Stadium. There will be no shuttles for this event.
  • People with disabilities attending the rally should enter campus on Stanford NE, north of Central where they will be directed to a drop-off point.
  • New Mexico Symphony patrons attending the Saturday night concert at Popejoy Hall are encouraged to use their regular shuttle service from the G lot on University Blvd.
  • For the NMSO Pops concert Saturday, all patrons are encouraged to park in the G Lot. Free shuttles will operate normally for NMSO patrons only. All shuttles are wheelchair accessible. For any patron with disabilities, the Cornell Parking Structure will be open to those displaying an appropriate state placard.
