UNM Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (EECE) faculty members
Christos Christodoulou, professor and EECE department chair, and Edl
Schamiloglu, EECE professor, have been elected fellows of the Institute
of Electrical and Electronics Engineers(IEEE), the preeminent professional society
in electrical and computer engineering.
IEEE has more than 365,000 individual members, both professionals and students.
The IEEE Grade of Fellow is conferred by the Board of Directors upon a person
with an extraordinary record of accomplishments in any of the IEEE fields of
interest.
The percentage of IEEE Fellows in an electrical and computer engineering department
is one of the metrics used in national rankings.
To be recognized by your peers is always uplifting, Christodoulou
said. As a chair of a department, however, getting such an honor helps
inspire and motivate faculty and that is even more satisfying to me.
Schamiloglu said being elected an IEEE Fellow for his technical contributions brings honor not only to him, but also to UNM.
