Committee seeks staff award nominations
Nominations for the 2002 Outstanding Staff Awards are due Monday, Feb. 18, the Provosts Committee on Staff Assessment and Development has announced.
To nominate a permanent, current, non-faculty staff, complete the form (mailed to all staff) and include a description of the nominees job, service and initiative. A workgroup, such as an office, department, division, or section is also eligible.
Nominations should be sent to Provosts Staff Awards, University Honors Program, University College Bldg., Rm. 21, attention Marcia Glenn.

Class offered to help staff maintain Spanish
A free Spanish language maintenance class for staff and faculty in Intermediate and Advanced Conversation and Composition is being held Wednesdays from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., Dane Smith Hall 325.

Diabetes program to focus on Native women
The Native American Diabetes Program (NADP) in the UNM Internal Medicine Department has been awarded a $1 million National Institutes of Health research grant for a five-year study focused on diabetes prevention and education of Native American women.
The NADP will be recruiting Native American women ages 18-40 to participate. For information, call 272-8465.
Miller named UNM Gallup interim director
Elizabeth L. Miller, dean of instruction at the UNM Gallup Branch since 1996, will become interim director of the branch effective Jan. 28, UNM Provost Brian L. Foster has announced.
She succeeds Robert E. Carlson, who earlier this month announced he was leaving the UNM Gallup Branch to accept a position as president of Chabot College in Hayward, Calif.
Foster said he will initiate a search for a permanent director later this semester.
