Children's Hospital benefits from telethon
Childrens Hospital of New Mexico, a component of the UNM Health Sciences Center, took part in the annual Childrens Miracle Network Telethon recently.
The telethon logged more than $1.35 million in donations - all of which stays in the state to help the children and families of New Mexico.
The single largest donation was $500,000 from the UNM Hospital Service League.
Pharmacy services on campus for faculty, staff
The Student Health Center (SHC) Pharmacy offers prescription care for UNM faculty and staff. Pharmacy staff will provide education and counseling on drug usage, interactions and side effects and over the counter medications.

Writer's retreat open to health professionals
The Second Annual Taos Writing Retreat for Health Professionals will be held Aug. 5-11 at the historic Mabel Dodge Luhan House.
Participants are invited to bring work-in-progress, both scholarly and creative, ideas for writing or simply a desire to write. Mornings feature group sessions with David B. Morris, award-winning author of "The Culture of Pain" and Julie Reichert, writer and teacher. Afternoons are for individual consultations and other venues.
UNM tuition remission covers $400 of the $1,750 fee, which includes six nights lodging, meals and materials. Deposit is due by June 30.

Sassoon to give talk on energy, environment
The UNM Center for Autonomous Control Engineering (ACE) is sponsoring a presentation by David R. Sassoon from the House of Sassoon. He will present BIO-Photonics - A New Science and Technology for the 21st Century on Thursday, June 21 at 3 p.m. in the Rotunda at the UNM Science and Technology Park, 801 University Blvd. SE.
Sassoon will discuss energy and its companion challenge of safeguarding the environment. The lecture is a prelude to the possible establishment of a research and development office on UNMs South Campus for a new Sassoon project called ECOPOLIS, an ecologically-inspired city.
Sassoon is the chief executive officer and director of research and development at Sassoon Group, Inc., Miami, Florida. He is research and development director for both the the House of Sassoon and ECOPOLIS, Inc., and a senior advisor to the Center for ACE at UNM.
