Endowment honors UNM Press
The New Mexico Endowment for the Humanities will honor UNM Press and Professor
Emeritus in the Department of Art and Art History J. J. Brody at the NMEH Thirteenth
Annual Humanities Convocation and Awards Ceremony Nov. 17 at the Marriott Hotel.
The opening reception begins at 6 p.m. with hors doeuvres and a cash bar.
Pamela Michaelis, publisher of Wingspread Collectors Guide and host of
KHFMs Gallery News, will emcee. A $15 donation is requested.
UNM Press will be recognized with the Institutional Award for its ongoing contributions
to the humanities since the UNM Regents founded it in 1929. Brody, former director
of the Maxwell Museum of Anthropology, will be honored with a Lifetime Contribution
to the Humanities Award. Brody orchestrated local, national and international
museum exhibitions and authored publications on Southwestern archaeology, American
Indian art and museology.
Guest speaker, Daniel Kemmis, author and director of the Center for the Rocky
Mountain West at the University of Montana at Missoula, will address life, politics
and social policy in the American West. The event is open to the public.
