UNM'S HISPANO STUDENT DAY PREPARES JUNIORS AND SENIORS

More than 1,000 Hispanic high school juniors and seniors will come to the University of New Mexico on Thursday, Oct. 27 for a day of activities designed to encourage and prepare them to get into college.

High school seniors can take advantage of on-site admissions during the event, co-sponsored by El Centro de la Raza and the UNM Office of Admissions and Recruitment Services.

The theme for Hispano Student Day is ¡Prepárate! – Education to the Highest Degree!

“The goal of the event is to inspire and enable students to leave the campus with a plan of action. Hispanic students from around the state will have the opportunity to meet hundreds of other students and receive critical college information. This day will represent for the students as the day they become Lobos,” said Veronica Mendez-Cruz, director, El Centro de la Raza.

Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. followed by junior and senior workshops, to be held at the Student Union Building at 9 a.m. A special session for counselors and sponsors designed to give them updated information is also at 9 a.m. in the SUB Theater.

The keynote address is at 11:10 a.m. in the SUB Ballrooms A, B and C featuring Regent Raymond Sanchez. A lunch and campus tour will round out the day with Mariachi Lobo providing entertainment.
