August 26, 2002 NEW TECHNOLOGY MAKES APPLYING FOR UNM JOBS EASIER, FASTER A new electronic employment process is up and running at the University of New Mexico. Now anyone interested in a staff job at the UNM Main Campus, Health Sciences Center or branch campuses can apply online with eJOBS at http://ejobs.unm.edu. eJOBS guides users through the application process and builds a resume based on the information provided. Users can also use eJOBS to write tailored cover letters. Users can link their completed applications to job openings within eJOBS. One application can be used to apply for any job in the UNM system and can be updated and revised at any time. eJOBS has been operational since Aug. 1. During the first three weeks of operation, more than 700 electronic employment applications were received by the UNM Department of Human Resources. Another feature of eJOBS is Job Finder, a tool that notifies registered users about job openings as they occur. Anyone can sign up for Job Finder, pick the jobs they want to be notified about and choose whether Job Finder (http://jobfinder.unm.edu) will notify them by email or telephone. To assist job applicants without computer access, an off-campus Employment Center at University Boulevard and Lomas NE will open early next year. It will have free parking and offer computer workstations for job applicants to use. Human Resources staff will be available to assist applicants with eJOBS and answer questions about UNM employment. eJOBS is the first in a series of large-scale improvements that will replace outmoded, paper-based administrative systems at UNM. Next, the EMIS Project will replace the current financial systems with a web-based process. Work on the student systems will begin in 2003. ###
