HUMAN RIGHTS LEADER MORRIS DEES SPEAKS AT UNM NOV. 6

Human rights leader Morris Dees, co-founder and chief trial counsel of the Southern Poverty Law Center, will speak at the University of New Mexico's Woodward Hall on Wednesday, Nov. 6 from 7 to 9 p.m. The talk will be broadcast live on TalNet, KNME-TV's Teach and Learn Cable Channel 28.

For more than 20 years, Dees has fought domestic terrorism, sued hate groups and educated students about respecting differences and the consequences of discrimination.

"Few people are more qualified to address some of the key issues facing our post September 11 world than Morris Dees," said Regina Turner, director of the New Mexico Foundation for Human Rights Projects (NMFHRP), the non-profit organization bringing Morris Dees to Albuquerque.
Tickets for the event are $10 for adults, $5 for students and are available through Tickets.com at 1-800-905-3315, or the UNM bookstore ticket office.

On Thursday, Nov. 7, Dees will address students around the state at the Convention Center's Kiva Auditorium. School officials must make reservations.

Community partners for the events include the UNM School of Law, KNME-TV Channel 5, TalNet Cable Channel 28, City of Albuquerque Educational Initiatives, APS Health/Mental Health Services, the Albuquerque Human Rights Office and Bookworks.
