Oct. 15, 2002 UNM TO HOST FIRST ANNUAL NEW MEXICO LAW DAY Representatives from more than 60 top law schools will be on hand to
talk with students and those in the community interested in attending
law school at the first "New Mexico Law Day" hosted by the University
of New Mexico, Saturday, Oct. 19, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Johnson
Center, South Gym. The event is sponsored by the Western Association of Pre-law Advisors
(WEPA). Participating schools will include UNM, Harvard, Yale, Columbia, Duke,
University of California-Berkeley, Tulane and Brigham Young University. "It is very exciting that so many well-known schools are coming
to UNM to recruit our students," says Ellen Grigsby, UNM pre-law
advisor and WEPA member. "As an advisor I have students come to me
and ask what law schools are looking for - this event allows students
to ask the schools first hand." The event is open to students enrolled in higher education, but also
to anyone interested in attending law school. Only 30 percent of those
entering law schools come directly from study in undergraduate programs.
Many adults are entering law school as a second career. New Mexico Law Day ends a weeklong series of events at universities throughout
the Southwest. ### |
