NATIVE RADIO PLAY TO BE RECORDED LOCALLY
Indian actors sought

KUNM 89.9 FM Community Radio will hold a live performance and recording of INET Radio, Bruce King's radio play addressing cultural trends affected by Native traditions, at the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center on Tuesday, Dec.10 at 7 p.m.

The story is set on a radio call-in show not unlike Native America Calling, a national program produced at KUNM by the Koahnic Broadcast Corporation. King is one of the winners of KUNM's Radio Play Script Contest.

Beverly Singer, director of the Alfonso Ortiz Center for Intercultural Studies at the University of New Mexico, plans to direct this production with an all-Native cast.

"The program will be something of a spoof on Native America Calling. We will take a lighter perspective on issues affecting the native community today - everything from casinos to 'wannabe' Indians," says Singer.

Individuals interested in using their voices to act in a radio spoof should come to the casting call on Saturday, Nov. 2, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Arts of the Americas Institute, 1923 Las Lomas NE, on the UNM campus across from the Anderson Schools of Management. KUNM provides small honoraria to those selected for roles.

"INET Radio-A spoof" script calls for the following:

Several Native American male voices
Two Native female voices
One Hispanic voice
One "wannabe" male voice
One Anglo radio advertising voice

The event, sponsored by the Urban Enhancement Trust Fund of the City of Albuquerque, the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center and KUNM, is free, but seating is limited. Call 277-4516 for more information.
