October 22, 2002 UNM HOSTS TRIBUTE TO LATINO MEDAL OF HONOR RECIPIENTS "Veteranos: A Legacy of Valor," an educational tribute to the
40 Latino Congressional Medal of Honor recipients, will be shown on Wednesday,
Oct. 30 and Friday, Nov. 1 at 9:30 a.m. at University of New Mexico's
Rodey Theater for middle and high school students. The showing for UNM
students, staff and faculty will be Wednesday, Oct. 30 at 7:30 p.m. in
Rodey Theater. Both performances are free but middle and high school students
must RSVP. The stories of David Barkley Cantu of WWI, Macario Garcia of WWII, Eugene
A. Obregon of the Korean War, and Roy P. Benavidez of the Vietnam War
explode on stage and include drama, music and dance. Slides and actual
Department of Defense footage compliment the stories. The show has an
ensemble cast of actors, singers and dancers accompanied by a live band
that will perform music including corridos, do-wop and classical numbers. In addition to these performances, there will be other show times for
the general public on Friday, Nov. 1 at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 2 at
2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, Nov. 3 at 2 p.m. These shows will take
place at Rodey Theatre. Tickets can be purchased for $8, $10 and $12 with
all proceeds going to the Military Order of the Purple Heart Service Foundation.
This dramatic presentation by "Four Brown Hats Entertainment" is co-sponsored by UNM, El Centro de la Raza, the Department of Theatre and Dance, Student Special Events and the Albuquerque Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. ###
