UNM SCIENCE LECTURE FOCUSES ON IMAGING OF TISSUES

University of Pennsylvania James M. Skinner Science Professor, Arjun Yodh, will present "Imaging of Tissues with Diffusing Light" at the University of New Mexico, Thursday, Nov. 7 at 5 p.m. in the UNM Continuing Education Conference Center, Room G, 1634 University Blvd., NE.

Yodh is a fellow of the Optical Society of America and the American Physical Society. He pioneered the use of nonlinear optics to probe level structure, charge dynamics and defects at the interface between crystalline solids.

His current interests include fundamental and applied questions in condensed matter physics, medical and biophysics and the optical sciences. He has devised microscopic methods to measure tiny forces on macromolecules in suspension. In the study of solution entropy, Yodh has identified novel ways to control the self-assembly of macromolecules.

The talk is sponsored by the UNM Chapter of Sigma Xi, the scientific research society and is co-sponsored by the Sigma Xi Headquarters, the UNM Office of the Vice Presidents for Research and for Health Sciences, School of Engineering, College of Pharmacy, Arts and Sciences, Physics and Astronomy, Division of Continuing Education and the Albuquerque Section of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers.
