November 5, 2002 ISPOR HOSTS SEMINAR ON NIH-FUNDED PREVENTIVE RESEARCH The University of New Mexico's International Society for Pharmacoeconomics
and Outcomes Research (ISPOR) student chapter is hosting a monthly lecture
series. Elaine Stone, UNM College of Education Department of Physical Performance
and Development adjunct professor, will present "Evidence Based Preventive
Research: The National Institute of Health Contribution & Challenges"
Wednesday, Nov. 20 from 12:15 to 1:15 p.m. at the UNM College of Pharmacy
in Room B-15. Stone retired from the National Institute of Health (NIH) after 21 years
of prevention research. She has a doctorate in behavioral science and
master's in public health. She currently teaches a graduate course titled
"Introduction to Community Health: Foundations for Practice Policy
and Research." Stone plans to discuss the federal health agencies in the Department
of Health and Human Services, which includes the NIH. Stone wants students
to see where NIH is located in the administrative structure along with
other federal health agencies. "I want to talk about funding levels of institutes, research training
and career opportunities for professionals at NIH," Stone said. The UNM ISPOR student chapter's mission is to ensure wise, fair and efficient
allocation of scarce healthcare resources. In this era of increasing healthcare
costs and growing concern about prescription drug coverage for seniors,
ISPOR provides tools to make the best use of resources. For information about ISPOR or the lecture series, call 272-5596 or e-mail at ispor@unm.edu. ### |
