Nov. 6, 2002 ATTORNEY TALKS ON LEGAL ISSUES OF MEDICAL TREATMENT FOR CRITICALLY
ILL Attorney Bill Colby will talk about the legal issues surrounding medical
treatment for the dying at the University of New Mexico School of Law,
Rm. 2525, on Thursday, Nov.14, at 4 p.m. Colby is author of "Long Good-bye - the Deaths of Nancy Cruzan (Hay
House Press, 2002)." He represented the Cruzan family before the
United States Supreme Court in a landmark case about appropriate medical
treatment at the end of life. Colby has tried cases in the state and federal courts and argued appeals
at various levels, including U.S. Supreme Court. He was associate visiting professor of law at the University of Kansas
School of Law for 2001-'02 and earned a J.D. from the school in 1982.
He has been a fellow with the Midwest Bioethics Center since 1999. Discussion follows the talk, sponsored by the Student Health Law Association.
