Nov. 11, 2002 UNM SCIENCE TALK FOCUSES ON WINE, BEER, SCOTCH AND CHEMISTRY Mark Ratner, Northwestern University chemistry professor, presents, "Wine,
Beer, Scotch and Chemistry" Thursday, Nov. 14 at 5 p.m. in the UNM
Continuing Education Conference Center, Room G, 1634 University Blvd.,
NE. Ratner is a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of
Science and the American Physical Society. He received the 2001 Feynman
Prize in Nanotechnology for contributions to the development and success
of nano-meter electronic devices. He has been listed on the Faculty Teaching
Honor Roll at Northwestern University eight times and received the University's
Distinguished Teacher Award. Ratner's work has been instrumental in establishing scientific understanding,
worldwide, about the mechanisms and magnitudes of conduction in molecular
junctions, specifically the nature of charge transport in single-molecule
nanostructures. The talk is sponsored by the UNM Chapter of Sigma Xi, the scientific
research society and is co-sponsored by the Sigma Xi Headquarters, the
Office of the Vice Presidents for Research and for Health Sciences, School
of Engineering, College of Pharmacy, Arts and Sciences, Physics and Astronomy,
Division of Continuing Education and the Albuquerque Section of the Institute
of Electrical and Electronic Engineers. ###
