November 21, 2002 CAMPBELL RECEIVES DISTINGUISHED ALUMNI AWARD FROM UNM
Campbell, American Institute of Architects (AIA), National Council of
Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB), was recently elected president
of the NCARB. He is a consultant to BDA Architecture PC, an Albuquerque-based
architectural firm specializing in veterinary facilities and advanced
technology campuses. Prior to joining BDA Architecture, Campbell served
as principal of Stevens Mallory Pearl & Campbell Architects, where
his tenure began in 1955. "As the current President of NCARB, Mr. Campbell represents our
profession with an impressive combination of vision, diplomacy and integrity.
His tireless work and advocacy on behalf of practitioners, students and
firms has benefited this profession and society immensely. The record
of Robert Campbell, AIA, is remarkable in its depth and national influence;
demonstrating the highest standards and accomplishment for inspired leadership
and service," said Roger Schluntz, dean of the UNM School of Architecture
and Planning. Campbell has been an active member and leader within the Western Council
of Architectural Registration Boards (WCARB), the American Institute of
Architects, and the New Mexico State Board of Examiners for Architects.
Campbell was appointed to his local, state and national boards in 1991;
he served as chair of the New Mexico Board from 1995-1997. Campbell co-authored
the "Handbook for New Mexico Building Officials" in 1996-1997
and later co-authored the "New Mexico Architectural License Act"
in 1999. In 2001, Campbell was the first recipient of the New Mexico Architects
Medal for Leadership, Ethics and Mentoring, an honor given to him by AIA
New Mexico. He also received his state board's award of distinction for
service to the architecture profession. "Robert Campbell, AIA, has a long, highly successful, and unparalleled
role in the leadership of the architecture profession in New Mexico, and
now, the nation and globe. His work has significantly raised the standards
for practice in this state, including his AIA leadership in accomplishing
vital revisions to New Mexico's licensing laws and regulations. As President
of NCARB, and as its immediate past first vice president, Bob's tireless
efforts on behalf of international cooperation and reciprocity - including
renewed negotiations toward a 'Host Nation' protocol with Mexico and Canada
- are undoubtedly without precedent," Schluntz said. "Beyond his inspired leadership, Bob's own practice and history as a partner with one of New Mexico's première firms provides considerable credibility and reputation, fully supported by awards for architectural design excellence. He represents the highest standards of the profession and society," he added. # # # |
