ANDERSON SCHOOLS FACULTY MEMBER PUBLISHED IN PRESTIGIOUS MANAGEMENT JOURNAL

Dante Di Gregorio, an assistant professor in the Finance, International and Technology Department at the Anderson Schools of Management, recently had an article accepted for publication by Management Science, which is one of the leading journals in the field publishing articles on a variety of management-related topics including operations research, industrial engineering, strategy and organization theory.

The article, which will be featured in an upcoming issue, is titled “The Halo Effect and Technology Licensing: The Influence of Institutional Prestige on the Licensing of University Inventions.” Specifically, the author found that even after accounting for differences in the quality of past licenses and technologies originating in universities, companies still preferred to license technologies from more prestigious universities.

This implies that companies are motivated to commercialize technologies from prestigious universities not only because such universities are likely to generate superior technology, but also as a result of the ‘halo effect’ and other benefits accrued by association with these prominent institutions, Di Gregorio says. The paper was co-authored by Wesley Sine and Scott Shane, professors at the University of Maryland.

Di Gregorio has been at the Anderson Schools since 2000. He is currently teaching courses in International Management and Mexican Economy and Markets. He is the vice president of the New Mexico International Trade Council and a member of the International Commerce Resource Center. He will receive his Ph.D. from Maryland next year.
