ANDERSON SCHOOLS PROFESSOR ADDRESSES SECOND NATIONAL CONGRESS OF POLITICAL SCIENCE AND PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION

Bruce Perlman, associate professor of Public Administration, recently addressed the Second National Congress of Political Science and Public Administration (Segundo Congreso Internacional en Ciencias Politicas y Administracion Publica) at the National Museum in Mexico City.

His address, titled “Public Management and Institutional Redesign in Public Administration” (Gerencia Publica y Rediseno Institucional en las Administraciones Publicas), was initiated by Juan de Dios Pineda, president of the National College of Political Science and Public Administration (Colegio Nacional de Ciencias Politicas y Administracion Publica) of Mexico, who invited him to speak to the group.

“It really was an honor to have the invitation from the president of the National College and to address such a large group of administrators and students in public service in Mexico,” said Perlman. “They are going through a time of deep government transition and things are more developed and change oriented than they have been in the last 10 years.”

Perlman’s travel was sponsored by the Speakers Office of the United States Embassy to Mexico. While in Mexico City, Perlman was invited to the Mexican “White House” (Los Pinos) to consult with members of President Vicente Fox’s team on government reform and to work with a task force of the Mexican Senate. In addition, he gave several other public talks to universities and government entities in Mexico City and Monterrey.

“It was especially gratifying to talk to President Fox’s advisors in Los Pinos and to learn about their sweeping plans for administrative reform,” Perlman said.
