CENTER FOR ADVANCED STUDIES WORKSHOP SET FOR DEC. 12 AND 13

The annual University of New Mexico Center for Advanced Studies (CAS) workshop is set for Thursday and Friday, Dec. 12 and 13 at Regener Hall on the UNM campus. The workshop will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Dec. 12 and 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Dec. 13.

The workshop showcases the research accomplishments of CAS members and their research staff, students and collaborators.

Individuals interested in participating are encouraged to submit and abstract for presentation at the workshop by Friday, Dec. 6. The abstract should be an informative summary of the presentation that should be prepared for a broad scientific audience.

The duration of each talk will depend on the number of talks, but will likely be between 20-30 minutes. In the event there are more submissions than what can be accommodated in the time available, presenters will have the option of providing a poster presentation.

CAS is a center of the College of Arts and Sciences at UNM with a mission to foster interdisciplinary research activities and interdepartmental collaborations in the College, and to enhance the international position of the University. The primary thrust of CAS is research in the sciences, but education as an activity and engineering and humanities as fields are also of interest to its mission.

Activities include arranging workshops, inviting and hosting visiting researchers from all over the world to UNM for short periods, and promoting initiatives that create and support collaborations among participating science departments. The underlying goal is to assist in the advancement of research in fields which have the potential to build bridges across disciplines.
