UNM FALL COMMENCEMENT SET FOR DEC. 13 AT UNIVERSITY ARENA

Some 1,519 students are projected to receive degrees at the University of New Mexico's 2002 Fall Commencement ceremony Friday, Dec. 13, at 6 p.m. in the University Arena ("The Pit").

Of the total, the projected breakdown is as follows: one associate degree; 1,336 bachelor's degrees; 297 master's degrees; 56 doctorate degrees; two education specialist degrees; one post- masters degree; 17 juris doctorate degrees; six pharmacy doctorate degrees; and three medical doctorate degrees.

Richard W. Holder, deputy provost and professor of chemistry, will be the master of ceremonies.
The UNM Double Brass Quintet with Jay Boyden, conductor, will play a selection of music for the ceremony's prelude and processional.

Michaela Koerner, who will be receiving a bachelor of music in vocal performance, will sing the national anthem. UNM President F. Chris Garcia will give greetings.

Delphinia Tapia, who is receiving a master of business administration, will then give the commencement address. Board of Regents President Larry D. Willard will award the Regents' Meritorious Service Awards (to be announced at a later date).

The conferring of degrees in course by President Garcia will then take place followed by Willard offering congratulatory remarks. Koerner will then lead the singing of the alma mater and Los Reyes de Albuquerque will perform the processional.

President F. Chris Garcia and Mrs. Sandy Garcia will host a reception for graduates, their families and friends, on the east concourse of the arena following the ceremony. In conjunction with commencement, several schools and colleges have scheduled convocations for Saturday, Dec. 14, unless date otherwise noted.

They are:

  • Anderson Schools of Management: 2 p.m. in Johnson Center. Graduates will speak - Grace Brill, executive class; Kim Winscott, MBA class; and Natalie Vigil, BBA class.
  • College of Education: 10 a.m. in Johnson Center. Graduate Elizabeth Ann Claunch Lebsack will speak.
  • College of Fine Arts: 2 p.m. in Keller Hall, Center for the Arts. James Moore, director of the Albuquerque Museum will speak.
  • School of Architecture and Planning: Friday, Dec. 13, 8:30 p.m., Science and Technology Park Rotunda Room.
  • School of Engineering: 11 a.m. in Popejoy Hall. Dr. Oliver Masefield from Eclipse Aviation Corporation will speak.
  • School of Law: 3 p.m. Law School, rm. 2401. Dean Robert Desiderio will speak.
