December 18, 2002 UNM, CALIFORNIA COLLEGE, SIGN ARTICULATION AGREEMENT The University of New Mexico and Mt. San Antonio College in Los Angeles,
Calif., have entered into an articulation agreement. Signing the document for UNM were Provost Brian Foster, Vice President
for Student Affairs Eliseo Torres and Director of Admissions Cynthia Stuart.
Raul Rodriguez, dean of counseling and matriculation, signed for Mt. San
Antonio College. "The agreement opens the door to allow students from Mt. San Antonio
College to transfer course credits to UNM in the same way New Mexico students
can transfer courses from TVI or other community colleges in the state,"
said Torres. The agreement encourages minority students in the Los Angeles area to
pursue higher education beyond the community college level, said Tim Gutierrez,
UNM director of Special Programs. He said that UNM's Summer Bridge program invites minority students from
the greater Los Angeles area to attend special programs to initiate them
to the university experience. Many of those students go on to attend community
colleges in Los Angeles. Signing this document allows those students to
then come back to UNM to finish a college degree. # # # |
