WATER PIPE REPAIRS REQUIRE ADVANCE UNM ROUTE PLANNING
Work to repair a broken 10-inch water pipe that crosses Redondo Drive
between the University of New Mexico Bookstore and the UNM Center for
the Arts will keep that section of Redondo Drive closed for the next three
to four weeks.
Campus visitors and patrons of Popejoy Hall and other UNM Center for the
Arts venues-as well as UNM faculty, staff and students-are asked to plan
their trips to UNM and their routes around campus ahead of time.
"People planning to attend Popejoy Hall events may access the Visitor
Parking Lot and the 'A' and 'R' parking lots from Stanford Drive. These
are the parking lots that extend east from the UNM Bookstore area. There
will be no access to those lots from Yale Blvd.," said UNM Director
of Parking and Transportation Clovis Acosta. "Additionally, the campus
shuttles to and from the 'G' parking lot will continue to operate as normal."
Parking lot attendants will be available to assist and direct Center for
the Arts patrons for many of the events, he said.
Among upcoming events planned at the UNM Center for the Arts are: Itzhak
Perlman and the New Mexico Symphony Orchestra (NMSO), Wednesday, Jan.
7; Speaker Amy Goodman as well as High Spirit dance contests, Saturday,
Jan. 18; Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration, Sunday, Jan. 19; NMSO, Friday
and Saturday, Jan. 24-25; and various solo musical performances Jan. 26-31.
Acosta said pedestrian traffic flow will continue as normal and that
pedestrian access on east side of Center for the Arts has been widened
somewhat while construction continues on the parking structure near Johnson
Center.
Shuttle routes around campus on Redondo Drive will also continue regular
service.
